Description
Oil painting on a thick oak panel, depicting washerwomen at work by a river and children wading at their feet, in a verdant landscape.
Signed O Flecken and dated 1922.
Biography
Karl Otto Leonard Flecken (known as Otto Flecken) was born on April 11, 1860 in Dusseldorf and died on April 1, 1925 in Frankfurt am Main.
Otto Flecken is a German landscape and panoramic painter, illustrator and poster designer.
He was a student of the sculptor Gustav Kaupert from 1875 to 1877 before devoting himself to painting.
From 1877 to 1882 he attended the Stildelschule under the direction of Heinrich Hasselhorst. Between 1886 and 1889, he went to Norway and painted Nordic landscapes. In 1886 he acquired a summer house in Oberursel in the Taunus, where he painted many of his works.
From 1885 to 1901, he worked as an illustrator for the Petite Presse, a city newspaper published in Frankfurt. -
