Unique Wall Sculpture "Silbver" by Martin Kline, USA, 2010
-
Description
Martin Kline is a painter, draughtsman, and sculptor, though these three practices sometimes blend in a single work. He was trained in studio art and was a student of Italian Renaissance painting, but it was not until he moved to New York in the 1980s that he began to explore abstract art. Now Kline works in an abstracted figural style, with references to flora, organisms, and mythological and literary characters. His particular sensitivity to natural motifs developed during the time Kline spent in the Hudson Valley. In the 1990s, Kline began to work in encaustic, and either dripped or painted with a brush in the melted, colored wax. The layers would grow into reliefs, which he sometimes re-cast in bronze, stainless steel, or carbon steel.
