Portrait of Husband and Wife with Baby
Probably English, ca. 1830-1840.
Unsigned.
Oil on canvas.
17 ½” x 15 ½”
Over-all in excellent condition, in a period paint-decorated frame.
This charming family folk portrait of husband and wife holding a baby has great appeal. Originally thought to be American, it shares many of the same qualities of our itinerate artists of the early 19th century, including formal attire, however the canvas is mounted on the original English oak stretcher.
