Mosaic Panel by Ruth Black Classic Cubistic Still Life Glass Tile 1950s / 60s
-
Description
A mosaic panel by Ruth Black created in the 1950s. Acquired from the Westwood estate of actors Robert Sterling and Anne Jefferies.
Unusual 3-D mosaic panel 36 x 18" created in the early 50s / 60s signed on the back by the artist.
The still life of a lute, 2 candles set in bottles, a fish and gourds set on a white top with a moon lit evening sky and blowing window drapes as a background.
The mosaic images are composed of glass, ceramic, copper, and mirrored tiles.
In addition Ruth Black's sophisticated application of white, lavender and cobalt blue smalti to develop highly textured accent background surfaces is very similar to the smalti surfaces that are a key aspect in Jeanne Reynal's more abstract mosaics from the same time period.
Overall the mosaic panel is in good vintage condition with wear consistent with its age. -
