17th century Italian painting, Saint Cecilia at the organ
-
Description
Great 17th century Italian painting. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a wonderful Saint Cecilia at the organ, of notable pictorial quality. Painting attributable to the workshop of Carlo Dolci (1616-1686), lacking authentication. Gifted with a superb technique, he was the greatest Florentine painter of the 17th century and his works are characterised by an idealised beauty, also flaunted by the very smooth rendering of the flesh tones on which a pale astral light is refracted. The Christian martyr is depicted while playing an organ because she is the patron saint of music, instrumentalists and singers. It is worth noting the quality in the creation of the dress, rich in splendid details and transparencies. 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, of beautiful decoration. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting of the colour in small spots. Overall in good state of conservation. Internal size H 84 x W 69 cm.
