19th Century French Floral Painting Signed Philippe Rousseau in Giltwood Frame
-
Description
A 19th century framed oil on canvas floral painting signed by French artist Philippe Rousseau (1816-1887). This French still-life painting depicts an exquisite bouquet of flowers placed on a neutral background, in a manner resembling the production of Jean-Siméon Chardin. The frontal light cast slightly from the left side accentuates the color of the red poppy, delicate pink roses, white chrysanthemums and green leaves beautifully. Simple and efficient, the artist, who is said to have studied under Antoine-Jean Gros, created here a charming painting that would add an elegant touch to any wall. Set inside a beautiful carved giltwood frame, the painting is signed 'Rousseau' lower right.
