Carolyn R. Shine (1918-2019)
Born in Cincinnati, Carolyn R. Shine graduated from Bryn Mawr College and also studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy. She actively took part in exhibiting her work during the late 1940s and early 50s including shows at the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Women’s Art Club of Cincinnati. During the 50s, Shine became an assistant to the director of Cincinnati’s Modern Art Society, which later became the Contemporary Arts Center. She later left the Modern Art Society to become the registrar at the Cincinnati Art Museum, a position that eventually led her to become the first curator of the Costume Department at the museum. Shine’s works tend toward abstraction with a particular interest in city scenes. -
