    Beautifully detailed oil on heavy card stock painting of an orientalist scene with camels resting and two figures taking the shade under a tree with several large impressive building in the distance. The artist is Elizabeth Paxton Oliver and is signed bottom middle. Condition is excellent. Circa 1930. Original linen mat and gold frame. Overall 10.5 by 9 inches. Framed under glass.. Provenance: Sarasota, Florida estate.

    (1891-1977) Elisabeth Paxton Oliver was born in Glasgow, Virginia. As a result of the bias against women artist in her time, she used initials to conceal her gender, hoping to have her work judged on its own merits! She moved to Tryon, North Carolina and found success with watercolor paintings of birds. She later moved to Georgia and died in 1977.
