Macabre Bar Scene Drunks - School of Charles Addams - Playboy Cartoon
-
Description
Even without the punch line, Gahan Wilson's highly stylized paintings are marvelous to behold. He is one of a few artists with a unique style instantly recognized as his own. In this work, we see an accumulation of passed-out drunks who have collapsed on one another. The work is as abstract as it is representational. Along with Charles Addams, Gahan Wilson illicts chuckles by portraying the dark and macabre side of humanity. This work was done as a full-page assignment for Playboy Magazine. It is unframed and signed lower right.
