Kano School painting of a scene from the Tales of the Heike wars showing two high ranking warriors of the Genji clan, Sasaki Shiro Takatsuna and Kajiwara Genta Kagesue, racing eachother on horseback across the churning water. Each hoping to be the first to reach the other shore in order to launch the attack on Yoshinaka’s garrisons. Mineral pigments, heavy gold leaf and gold dust on mulberry paper. Silk brocade border and black lacquer trim with original bronze hardware. Signature and seal read: Fujiwara Furunobu hitsu. Part of a pair with S1911A, Sold Separately
