    For your consideration here is a wonderful original watercolor by the Scottish born artist John P. Nicolson also known as John Nicolson. Executed circa 1910 in the style of Winslow Homer it depicts a group of fishermen relaxing at the end of the day with the historic city of Edinburgh in the distance. The tall gothic spire in the foreground is Victoria Hall. Signed lower left and titled verso on the frame and signed verso as well. Housed in it original wood, gesso and gold gilt frame which is very good condition with minor restorations. Museum glass protected. The watercolor is in very good condition with several tiny scattered spots of foxing in the sky. Slight toning due to age. The watercolor is on paper that has been laid down on heavy board long ago. Overall size framed 25 by 32 inches. Provenance: Alexander Drysdale, Edinburgh.

    Nicolson was a member of Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Society of Printers, Etchers, and Engravers as well as being a member of the Royal Watercolor Society. He worked for several magazines as an illustrator including "The Bystander" and the "Piccadilly". He died in London in 1951 in a traffic accident.
