Description
Woman with Basket & Fruit 2009 – original by Christiaen van Couwenbergh (1604 – 1667)
Finely painted oil on canvas copy of the original Dutch Golden Age picture.
Couwenbergh was born in Delft, Netherlands, Christiaen learned to paint from Johan van Nes, and then entered the Guild of St. Luke in Delft in 1627. He then travelled back and forth to Italy. Upon his return he settled in The Hague where he joined the Confrerie Pictura in 1647 becoming deacon in 1649.
We are pleased to sell works on behalf of Jonathan Adams. Jonathan has been producing museum standard hand painted copies of fine oil paintings since the mid 1980s. All the materials he uses, canvas or panel, mediums, paint, stretchers and frames are of the finest quality and there are no short cuts or artificial processes used.
By 1990 he was exhibiting copies at a prestigious gallery in Dover St, London, with Susy Ray, then one of Britain's foremost copyists. He copies, among others, Rembrandt, de Heem and George Stubbs. - More Information
