"Young Aegean Islander," Brilliant Painting by Julius Bloch

$ 8,500
  • Description
    This vivid and large portrait of a young, sunburned Greek man, painted in a palette of deep blue, red and ruddy skin tones, was painted by Julius Bloch in 1961. The artist spent his early years depicting African Americans, starting in the 1930s. In the 1950s and 60s, he traveled to Greece and the Mediterranean, painting scenes such as this that were filled with bright color and vivid atmosphere. In this case, the young man's large eyes, expressive mouth and sunburned complexion make him a compelling subject. The medium is oil on canvas; the elaborate frame is original.
