"Topography 3," 2020 is a large framed abstract oil painting by Kathi Robinson Frank. This mixed-media painting incorporates oil, acrylic, charcoal, and metallic paint in shades of black, white, gray, blue, burgundy, blush and metallic gold. It is framed in a natural wood sealed wood frame with a black liner.

Robinson Frank describes the process for this harmoniously balanced work: "this painting is continuation of my "Topography" series painted on raw canvas laid on the floor of my studio. Using a drywall spatula, I apply the first layer of white gesso and black acrylic, setting up the marks upon which the painting unfolds. Once dry, I stretch the canvas and hang it on my painting wall so that I can work vertically. I draw, paint, scrub and overpaint until I begin to find my voice. This is my formal problem solving process, pushing and pulling shapes, colors and lines.

New York City born Kathi Robinson Frank began painting at an early age. While in high school, she studied at The Art Students League and pursued her passion at Bard College where she graduated with her BA. Her early influences were Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Rauschenberg and Larry Rivers. Robinson Frank has shown at the Provincetown Art Association, Brydclifffe Kleinert/James Center in Woodstock, New York, the Bell Gallery in Rhinebeck and Woodstock, the Wired Gallery in High Falls, New York and Has Morada in Buccerias, Mexico. In 2016 she had a solo show at P.S. 209 Gallery in Stone Ridge, New work and was part of a group exhibition at the 1stdibs Gallery in Manhattan.
