"Red Painting" - Historic Red and Pink Geometric Oil Painting

$ 15,600
  • Description
    Red Painting (1972) is a captivating example of mid-20th-century geometric abstraction, where bold red and magenta vertical bands dominate the canvas with rhythmic precision. The structured arrangement creates a harmonious dialogue between form and color, while the slender diagonal lines slicing through each band introduce dynamic energy and movement. This composition resonates with the traditions of the Color Field movement and echoes the clean precision of Hard-Edge painting, yet its luminous warmth sets it apart. The meticulous layering of vibrant hues creates a rich visual texture, offering both emotional resonance and architectural elegance. Ideal for modern and contemporary interiors, this artwork’s bold presence infuses any space with vibrancy and sophistication. Its meditative repetition of forms suggests a visual rhythm, akin to poetic stanzas rendered in color. With its refined balance of structure and expressive warmth, Red Painting bridges the gap between minimalist restraint and vibrant emotionality, making it a statement piece for collectors and design enthusiasts alike.

    Canin states, "My work has gone through many changes in the more than forty years that I have been painting. Manet’s statement still resonates for me: To be concise in art is both necessary and elegant. Luminosity is still the goal, oil paint on canvas still the preferred medium, shape and color still the plastic means to speak my particular expression."

    Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1927, Martin Canin is firmly rooted in the New York School of Abstract Expressionism. He received his major art training at Syracuse University, where he was awarded the B.F.A. in 1951. In 1959 he went to Tokyo, Japan, where he had his first one-man show in 1960. At the end of the 60s he started teaching at the Parsons School of Design.

    His work is part of the Tate Gallery and the Yale University Art Gallery's permanent collection, and it has been exhibited in Europe, Japan and the United States, including several one-man shows at the historic Graham Gallery at 1014 Madison Avenue, NY.
