Sannio - Blue, Yellow and Red Landscape Oil Painting on Canvas
-
Description
This abstract painting embodies the rich textures and colors of the Italian landscape, specifically referencing the historic region of Sannio. The artist uses a unique mix of earth pigments, lime, and marble dust to create a layered surface that captures the organic feel of natural materials. Warm tones of reddish-brown blend with soft yellows and pale whites, evoking the warmth and light of Mediterranean landscapes. The artist’s process of building up and scraping away these materials adds depth, texture, and a sense of history to the work. Perfect for adding a statement piece to modern interiors, this painting offers a connection to nature and a timeless elegance that complements both contemporary and classic designs.
This piece would work well as a focal point in living rooms, home offices, or any space needing a natural, earthy palette. Its layered textures and tactile quality draw viewers in, making it ideal for art enthusiasts and interior designers alike who seek a blend of modern abstraction and natural beauty. Inspired by the land of the artist's ancestors, the painting brings a sense of serenity and groundedness, making it a perfect addition to neutral or earth-toned decor schemes, balancing minimalism with warmth.
Italian born - from the southern region of Campania, home to the ancient Roman sites of Pompei and Ercolano - the artist says, "My work references the land of my ancestors. Over the years, the elements of that land - the light, texture, shadows, color, and the actual materials - earth pigments, lime, marble dust - have formed the essence of an "inner landscape" and have become a reference point for my work. I was trained as a sculptor, and the "feel" of the material is central to my work. The use of and commitment to unconventional handmade tactile materials is essential for me. I use an earth palette with handmade lime paint, pigments, graphite, handmade oil pastel, sand, dirt, and straw. Creating these materials in the studio is an essential component of my process. I build up the surface, adding layers, sometimes scrape away, and often take a torch to what remains. This physical engagement establishes an intimate relationship with these active substances, leading to a sense of immediacy, depth, and freshness." -
