England has a rich tradition of producing natural history painters. Raymond Booth is widely regarded as one of that country's leading contemporary artists working in that tradition. In addition to paintings of birds and animals in their natural habitat, like Pigeon in Winter Woodland, Booth's botanical drawings and paintings are also widely collected.
Born in Leeds, England in 1929, Booth studied at Leeds College of Art. By the late 1950's he enjoyed a considerable reputation which has only grown in the ensuing half century. Booth's work has been showcased in the Illustrated London News and a number of London galleries have shown his work, particularly the fable Fine Arts Society on at least two occasions. His paintings are found in a number of public U.K. collections, notably the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge. He derives inspiration from the natural beauty and wildlife of Yorkshire. -
