Oil on artist board painting of the historic city of Toledo by the Australian artist, Robert Camm. Signed lower left and titled and dated verso, 1931. The painting depicts Puerta Bisagra and the large gate of Moorish orgin that was the original entrance. The rest of the structure was completed in 1559. Condition is good with original frame with some wear. Overall framed 13 by 10.5 inches. Overall condition of painting is good. Several tiny specks of inpaint in sky.
Robert Camm came to Australian in 1853. An artist in the throes of nation building, Camm is best known for his patriotic painting "Aussies" which is in the collection of the Australian War Memorial. Dated between 1914-15, it is one of few and finest examples of a work that depicts Australian soldiers at the beginning of WWI. Predominantly, Camm painted pastoral scenes and coastal views of Victoria, particularly Apollo Bay, Lorne and Ocean Grove. - More Information
