LITTLE BLACK DRESS
-
Description
Look no further than a little black dress! Turning this popular phrase into a bemusing - and life-sized - painting of the character Olive Oyl from the Popeye cartoon, artist Sam Meléndez showcases his wide variety of influence. Inspired by the gritty, vintage colors of his hometown in Puerto Rico, as well as cartoon characters and fashion, his paintings are as vivid as they are personal. Make it a centerpiece in an airy sitting room, or maybe on a staircase landing - regardless, it is sure to bring its bright, cheeky energy into your home.
About Sam Meléndez:
Sam Meléndez combines his love for all things vintage and bright colors from his home, Puerto Rico, in his work. Evidence of his process is an integral component of his paintings, creating an authentic personal narrative alongside the subject he depicts. For this reason, the grit that charcoal marks leave behind and the notes he makes while sketching the pieces are important to the final compositions. "I love the combination of the raw, black and white of the charcoal and bare canvas contrasted with the super bright colors I work with." -
