Ragin' Against The Machine
-
Description
It's long believed that "the machine" is capitalism and the oppressive structures at the highest levels of society. Renegade artist Basquiat became drawn into this machine and became grist for its hungry jaws, ultimately raging against its exploitation. Today we also live in times of unprecedented political upheaval and uncertainty and again people are questioning their own and global leadership. Berlin is highly attuned to the emotions and feelings of the world, keeping a gentle finger on the pulse of places he goes and people he meets. This Neo-Expressionist painting is a culmination of some of these intense intuitions; note the character is wearing a business suit, he has a blood red mouth and his background is yellow, the colour of treachery, but this piece has the feel of subversion in every stroke of paint, this is Basquiats ultimate subversion a 21st Century reincarnation in the hands of Sax Berlin. This work is a contemporary comment on the political landscape and a glorious artwork.
