Description
WILLIAM HOYT (1815-1862) LIVED/ACTIVE IN NEW YORK
Still Life of Fruit in a White Compote
Signed and date (l.r.) Hoyt 55 (1855)
Oil on canvas
30” x 36”, 34” x 47” with frame
Over-all in fine condition, recently lined, minor scattered in-painting.
Appears to be in the original frame
Provenance: Found in Western New York State Although little is known about William Hoyt, he was an accomplished still-life painter. A few examples of these imposing fruit still-lifes with reticulated white compotes have appeared on the market over the years. Having lived only to the age of 47, Hoyt’s work is quite scarce. This still life captures the best of his ability as a painter. - More Information
