Romantic Couple In Wartime Paris on Rainy Parisian Night
-
Description
The technique and subject matter work well together in this loosely but masterfully rendered World War 1 romantic illustration of a Soldier and a Parisian woman. Even though this work in about 100 years old it has a fresh quality to it. Wilmot Emerton Heitland conveys drama with darks and lights in a moving composition that is dominated by two forground figures while in the background, we see umbrellaed pedestrians walking through and rainy Parisian night. The work presents better in person and is quite large. Signed lower left. Titled in pencil lower right. Sheet 27 x 21.5. Unframed
American born illustrator and watercolor artist Wilmot Emerton Heitland, N.A. (1893-1969) was his nephew, some of his paintings are on display at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum and the Philadelphia Museum School of Art. -
