As with many of his other series, De Haan accomplished the photographs in the Timeline series through a combination of contemporary digital tools and organic human processes.
He first designed a geometric shape using digital software then photographed that shape, enacting a physical gesture while the shutter was open.
He then further manipulated the photograph digitally, moving the pixels from one side to the other so that new lines and shapes could emerge.
Each photograph's dimensions are 29,7 x 39,4 cm/ 11,6 x 15,5 inches

The process begins when De Haan uses digital software to create a geometric composition. He then photographs that composition directly from the screen. By adjusting the physical conditions under which the photograph is taken, such as by lowering the light or moving the camera, De Haan allows the analogue photographic process to interact with the digital image in ways that are often unpredictable, introducing an element of surprise to the final result.
