Urban Art Street Photography of Bus and Billboard Red Jacket
-
Description
A tourist bus adorned with punchy hi-key graphics passes in front of a soaring Times Square billboard of similar nature. Street Photographer Mithcell Funk captures the precise moment in an exquisitely nuanced way. The juxtaposition of both bus and billboard seems to be one. Only on close inspection does the viewer notice that they are separate elements. The composition is punctuated with a foreground figure cloaked in a hot red sweater related to the overall color scheme.
Can a street photograph be a grab shot and precisely designed simultaneously? Mitchell Funk says yes. He brings finely honed photography skills such as composition, intense lighting, and design to found subject matter. The compositional precision normally found in studio photography is evident in his street photography. Unlike most street photographers, Funk is an abstractionist while being a documentarian.
