Description
A framed black and white street photograph by Vivian Maier (American, 1926-2009), "Untitled, June 25, 1961". This is a gelatin silver print printed in 2014. This sharply contrasted black and white print captures a group of uniformed sailors in a terminal with beams of sunlight projecting into the dark space. The light and shadow created an ethereal effect that was often found in Vivian Maier's photographs. The print was from no 14 from an edition of 15, Gallery labeled verso shows the photographer's collection stamp, signed by John Maloof, detailing creation and print date as well as edition number in ink
Provenance: Howard Greenberg Gallery.
Image measures 11 7/8" x 12", with a sight size of 12 1/4" x 12 1/4" and a sheet size of 20" x 16". Framed dimensions are appx 24 5/8" x 20 5/8".
Vivian Maier took photos anonymously and obsessively throughout her life. Only toward the very end of her life, due to poverty, her films were discovered by accident and made known to the public. Her street life pictures are now considered great work of art and documentary of American life in the 20th century. -
