Description
Presented in an original WWII Naval aviation recruitment poster. The small poster was issued in February of 1941 to help recruit cadets. The brightly colored poster depicts a naval aviator climbing into the cockpit of an airplane. In the background, an aviator and mechanic inspect another plane one the carrier deck. The poster text at top reads, "FLY with the U.S. NAVY.” Below, it states that “Americans between the ages of 20 to 27 with two-year college credits or the equivalent thereof should see the nearest U.S. Navy Recruiting Office."
Naval Aviation was an integral part of WWII fighting tactics. U.S. Naval Aviation began in the early 1900s, but did not become a decisive element until the Second World War. Not just for pilots, the division needed personnel to handle complicated storage, launching, and landing processes of aircraft carriers. This poster advertises a need for men to assist with the various aspects of those processes.
