Francois-Nicolas Martinet - Pair Framed Parrot Engravings
-
Description
Pair framed hand-colored copperplate engravings of parrots by Francois-Nicholas Martinet (1731-1800) from the “Histoire Naturelle Des Oiseaux” by George Louise Marie Leclerc, Comte de Buffon. The engravings are magnificently framed in white painted and gilded frames with matting of colored marbled endpaper.
Martinet was a French engineer, engraver and naturalist and was one of the most influential ornithologists in 18th-century France. Martinet became well respected for his engravings because he learned how to bring realism to his bird illustrations, which was not an easy task in that time period. - More Information
