Jean-Michel Basquiat Neo Expressionist "Poedi" Color Plate Lithograph, Framed

Sold Sold
  • Description
A color plate lithograph titled "Poedi" by the iconic contemporary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat ( American, 1960-1988) originally created in 1981 and printed in 1984. The piece showcases Basquiat's signature visual language—an electrifying fusion of abstract forms, bold strokes, and primitive motifs, intertwined with his characteristic use of text and symbols.
The lithograph, executed in vivid colors, reflects Basquiat's exploration of identity, cultural commentary, and layered storytelling. The chaotic yet deliberate arrangement of lines, colors, and shapes reveals his ability to blend street art aesthetics with high art sensibilities, making his works a cornerstone of the neo-expressionist movement.
This framed edition elevates the lithograph with a sleek black frame accented by a metallic inner trim, creating a sophisticated presentation that draws the viewer’s eye toward the artwork. While the total number of prints in this limited edition is unspecified, such ambiguity often enhances the allure and exclusivity of the piece for collectors and enthusiasts. The lithograph comes with a COI.

    About the artist :
Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960–1988) was an American artist and a defining figure of the 1980s art scene. Born in Brooklyn, New York, to a Haitian father and Puerto Rican mother, Basquiat showed an early talent for art. He first gained attention as a graffiti artist under the tag SAMO, creating cryptic and poetic messages on the streets of Manhattan.
By the early 1980s, Basquiat transitioned to painting, blending street art aesthetics with neo-expressionist techniques. His work often addressed themes of identity, race, power, and social inequality, incorporating text, symbols, and raw imagery inspired by African art, pop culture, and his personal experiences.
Basquiat quickly rose to fame, collaborating with artists like Andy Warhol and becoming one of the youngest artists to exhibit at prestigious galleries. Despite his success, he struggled with substance abuse and tragically died of a heroin overdose at just 27 years old.
Today, Basquiat is celebrated as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, with his works commanding record-breaking auction prices and continuing to inspire generations.
