The Spirit of Man was created as a concept piece for a major 30 foot high monument to be placed in front of the Utah Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall in Salt Lake City.
Fraughton considers this work to be one of his finest pieces he ever created.

The bronze piece is in very good condition with normal wear. With the unaided eye there are no apparent issues. Inscribed on the front of the piece: "As the young eaglet must eventually stretch forth his wings and fly, so must the mind, the body, the spirit of man, leap beyond the mediocrity of vain existence to find freedom through his own genius.
