Hugo Lederer's masterpiece "The Fencer" depicts the quintessential muscular male nude in a classic pose. With just one prop , the fencer's sword, the statue is about a perfect harmony of component parts. One thinks of Rodin or Canova.
There is some damage to the bronze. Most visible is the crack line of the right shoulder cast joint The right was added at the foundry. This was a common practice among some sculptures to piece together their statues. . There is also a crack and previous repairs. The tip of the sword has been bent towards the plinth and reattached. Martin & Piltzing foundry, Berlin - The Bronze is a later cast after a model by Hugo Lederer. Edition size with these dimensions is unknown -
