Description
Large original sculpture in cement by Juan Palau (Barcelona 1929-Moulins France 2013)
Handmade, not molded. Unique piece.
Juan Palau left behind a considerable body of work, he created a number of monuments in the city of Moulins and the surrounding towns as well as sculptures of more modest size.
For decades Juan Palau developed an original style with pure forms recognizable among a thousand whether his works are abstract or figurative. Pure curves revealing the multiple facets of characters with a minimal appearance, empty spaces astonishingly present, abstract forms defying gravity.
His material of choice was cement, for the most imposing sculptures he used relatively sophisticated steel armatures.
But Juan Palau had other strings to his bow, clay and plaster for more classical works, notably realistic portraits, and he also had a talent for carving stone and notably realized magnificent bas-reliefs in slate, evolving from organic forms at the beginning of his career to much more conceptual and stylized figures over the years. -
