Description
Italian silver, rose quartz and malachite model of an eagle by Cervone
Italian, c. 1970
Height 71cm, width 53cm, depth 32cm
This Italian silver sculpture depicts a majestic eagle about to take off from the rocky base. It showcases the exceptional skills of Luigi Cervone, the Italian silversmith responsible for its creation.
The eagle is depicted with its wings stretched outwards, and its body leaning forward. Cervone brilliantly depicted fine details such as feather texture or claw details. The red glass eyes imbue the eagle sculpture with a powerful look, and its wide-open beak appears as if it is about to catch something. In places, the sculpture is gilt which superbly accentuates a selection of details.
The bird of prey is standing on a large rose quartz base, the pink colouration of the stone beautifully standing out against the silver. The whole piece is supported by a malachite and gilt metal base.
The sculpture is stamped with the ‘800’ mark indicating the purity of the silver as well as ‘1007_MI’ mark for Milan and Luigi Cervone.
Beautifully rendered from a variety of materials, this superb sculpture would be a great addition to the collection of anyone with a love for ornithology.
The silver weighs approximately 6092 grammes.
