Murakami bridges the gap between Fine Art and Pop Art by uniting elements of Japanese anime and manga with traditional Japanese nihonga and Ukiyo-e woodcuts. Murakami's 'Jocular Clan' series displays his characteristic 'Superflat', colourful 2D style. It is a playful collection of Japanese inspired, cartoon-like characters who certainly live up to their clan's cheerful name - the word 'jocular' is used to describe someone who is happy and likes to make jokes
