"Golden Nugget, Las Vegas, Nevada" Still Bank, Circa 1950
-
Description
This was probably a promotional still bank introduced by the world famous "Golden Nugget Casino" located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The casino opened in 1946 and is still in operation today. The iconic location was the site of several movies including James Bond "Diamonds Are Forever" in 1971, and "Casino" in 2004. The bank depicts a large ceramic gold nugget resting on a black ceramic base with "Golden Nugget Las Vegas, Nevada" inscribed on the front. It is quite scarce as I can attest to, since I both live in Nevada, and deal in antique banks, yet I have never come across another example.
The nugget part of the bank is painted in gold with mica like highlights, while the base is painted black with gold highlights to the raised letters in front. The round coin trap is lacking beneath the felt covered base.
The "Golden Nugget" Bank is in completely original excellent condition with no restoration and no repaint or touch up of any kind. There are a few paint chips to the base and less to the paint on nugget (see images), but overall, a very attractive and unique bank to add to a still bank or gold nugget collection. The bank is circa 1950.
It is quite a large bank measuring 7 3/8" high x 6 1/2" wide x 5 1/2" deep. -
