Antique George III period clavichord by Beck

This elegant instrument is a clavichord, a type of piano popular during the eighteenth century. The clavichord is crafted from mahogany and is adorned with inlaid strips. The top of the instrument opens to reveal the keyboard and the inner workings, and the piece is supported by four legs joined by a shelf. The clavichord is by Frederick Beck, an important German maker who moved to England in the middle of the century and worked from London for many decades.
Above the keyboard is inscribed ‘Fredericus Beck Londini fecit 1788 / No. 10 Broad Street Soho’.
