-
Description
Antique Korean hardwood money chest or trunk with original hand-forged iron latch plate with a pierced design, corner mounts and hinges. The top is hinged at the center. Paper money did not exist in Joseon Dynasty Korea, which lasted five centuries. Small coins were used and so became quite heavy when a substantial amount was amassed and thus had to be stored in well constructed and strong chests.
