French 19th Century Black Lacquered Napoleon III Cabinet

Description
A beautiful antique French cabinet featuring inlaid brass, satinwood, mahogany, ebony and mother of pearl, made in the Napoleon III Style, circa 1850. The cabinet has a white marble top that is shaped to fit the base. Its turreted front corners match those found there. The apron is embellished with a lovely frieze of inlaid brass and mother of pearl with a central urn, from which flow florally-figured filigree. Gilt brass ormolu was used extensively throughout the antique, with the metal mounts trimming the top and base, forming a central door panel, capping the turned columns’ capitals and bases, and surrounding the door’s working lock. This brass escutcheon is cast with the figure of a ram’s head. The cabinet’s single door is flanked by turned columns that are shaped, and fluted, with gilt brass ormolu found in the fluted columns’ grooves. The interior cavity is spacious and appointed with two finished, fixed shelves. Turned feet, clad in gilt brass trim, elevate the case piece: both literally and figuratively.
