  • Description
A fine and notable secretaire in trompe-l’oeil of a semainier chest, c. 1850. It is finished in beautiful, rich mahogany with canted corners. The top drawer locks and has a single key that acts as it pull. The two faux drawer fronts directly below the top drawer pulls forward, when unlocked, using the turned wood knob. Press a small brass button on the right side to release the top to fold down into a secretary with a black leather top. This writing surface has a height of 30? and measures 20-3/4?W. When opened, a theatre of rosewood houses a single cubby and three small drawers with turned wood knobs divided with satinwood trim. Four more drawers fall in line below the secretary and use the key from the top drawer as a pull. All locks work but one, the second from the bottom. Each drawer front is framed with a recessed panel. The whole is raised on shaped feet extending the details from top to bottom. With the writing surface laid down, the desk has a total depth of 29?.
