Description
A very smart secretary very much in the style of Seddon & Sons and of substantial proportions. With a projecting pediment with the unusual feature of balls to the underside, a bow-fronted glazed bookcase doors inlaid to the sides with satinwood, ebony and sycamore. Above secretary drawer containing an arrangement of line-inlaid drawers with ivory pulls and baize-inlaid a rachetted writing slope, the bow-front base with an arrangement of drawers all lined, unusually, in maple above a shaped apron and graceful French feet.
It is unusual to find a secretary bookcase with bookcase section bowed to the same design as the base. Although in style of Seddon & Sons, this piece may have been made by one of the leading Northern or Scottish cabinet makers. -
