Pair of Art Nouveau gilt metal and steel vitrines
-
Description
These wonderful vitrines (display cabinets) were created in France in the early 20th Century. They are designed in an elegant Art Nouveau style which was in vogue in this period.
The vitrines feature wide rectangular steel bodies, which are topped by scrolled steel vines with gilt leafy flourishes. Each vitrine body accommodates three shelves, two of which are glass. These are contained behind glass doors, which are divided by central mirrored panels, decorated with sinuous gilt metal and steel foliage. The vitrines’ glazed bodies are further ornamented by gilt metal foliate hinges and mounts. The vitrines stand on four steel scrolled legs, on gilt metal bun feet. These legs are connected by curling steel stretchers to their reverses which, like the legs, are decorated with gilt leaves. -
