Primary Woods: Mahogany, Bird’s Eye Maple
Secondary Wood: Pine
Reference: This sideboard is illustrated in William C. Ketchum, Jr., American Cabinetmakers, pages 275-276; it also appears in The Magazine Antiques, July, 1980, page 141 in an article by Eleanore Bradford Monahon, “The Rawson Family of Cabinetmakers in Providence, Rhode Island.”
Eleanore Monahon notes that the label found in this sideboard was in use by the Rawson firm from 1815 until 1828. She also notes that the combination of curly maple and mahogany veneers is found on another labeled Rawson sideboard. -
