Description
Pair of "Gatto Piccolo" cocoon metal and wood table lamps, designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, early examples manufactured by Flos in the 1960s.
Crafted with a painted metal structure, coated in cocoon, this lamp has become a collector's piece for enthusiasts of historical design, captivating with its silhouette. When illuminated, the shadows it casts on the wall evoke the sinuous forms of a feline, somewhat lurking, somewhat waiting, in the darkness of a room. There couldn't have been a better name for this lamp designed by the Castiglioni brothers for Flos in 1960 than "Gatto" (Italian for "cat"), presented here in its small, bedside version.
Like many of their projects, the "Gatto" lamp also carries a touch of the irony that animated numerous creations by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni: from the hole in the marble base of the Arco lamp (useful for sliding in a broomstick for easy mobility), to the "Mezzadro" stool, which allows us to bounce on an agricultural saddle casually mounted on a steel bow.
Available as a pair, the lamps are in excellent original condition and fully functional. When lit, they create a soft, diffused atmosphere, perfect for decorating a bedroom or a relaxation area.
