"During the postwar years a new kind of self-skinning spray-on plastic known as "Cocoon" was developed in the United States for mothballing of naval vessels.
In 1959 a new company named Flos was founded in Italy to produce light fixtures utilizing this material.
This led to the Castiglioni brothers designing their series of "Cocoon" lights."

Message from Seller:
Illustris was born out of its founder’s passion for beautiful objects that were touched by time. Searching for unique lighting fixtures around the globe, serving as their stewards for a while and giving them another lease on life is the company’s mission. The Illustris collection includes pieces with clean, sculptural lines designed by Scandinavian architects, early American industrian lighting that perfectly fits into the modern home as well as rare examples of Spanish modernism.
