Viennese cold-painted bronze Orientalist figurative lamp of a dancer by Zach

This superb cold-painted bronze sculptural lamp was crafted by Bruno Zach (1891-1935), a famous Ukrainian-born sculptor.

An elegant dancer clothed in minimal garments is beautifully performing in front of another female who is playing and singing for her. The dancer is mostly painted in silver ensuring she stands out against the rest of the piece. On the other hand, the signer is dressed in Orientalist style clothing, coloured in shades of gold and cream, a more usual colour palette for cold-painted bronzes of this type. Both figures are placed on top of a polychrome rug.

On the right side is a bamboo stick construction adorned with a tiger skin, a fan, additional musical instruments, and palm tree leaves. From the top of the construction hangs a minaret-style lamp with blue glass detailing. A locked chest is displayed by the bamboo construction.

The piece is signed ‘SALAT’ on the rug, a signature used by Bruno Zach on some of his pieces.

Of an intriguing design showcasing a lively scene, this sculptural lamp would make an outstanding addition to one’s collection of cold-painted bronzes.
