Description
Carlo Scarpa for Venini, Pair of custom made Poliedri wall lights in clear and smoked glass, Italy, late 1970s.
The glass polyhedron, as a basic unit in the production of different types of lamps, was designed by Paolo Venini in 1958 and used by Carlo Scarpa in the creation of a large chandelier exhibited at the Universal Exhibition in Brussels that same year. Starting in the late 1950s, Scarpa used the module for a series of apliques and chandeliers, which have become Venini's must-haves over the years.
The couple proposed by us was commissioned to Venini by an art collector from Ravenna, who needed two large non-standard pieces for his home, furnished between the end of the 1970s and the beginning of following decade.
It is interesting to note that the system of attachment of the Polyhedra to the metal structure is different from the original one of the 1950s and precedes the system that Venini uses for similar models still in production.
