'Cenote' Sculptural Wall Sconces Made in Studio Glass by Domenico Ghirò
-
Description
These sconces were made by Domenico Ghirò in his prestigious family run studio, based just outside of Milan. The structure is made from polished brass and the multi tonal art glass is hand carved. Each sconce has a opaque diffuser under the textured glass appliqué which is held in place with two hand carved brass "nuggets".
“Cenote” is the Spanish derivative of the ancient Maya’s “Xenotes”, the blue and silent waters of the Cenotes; hidden swimming pools in Mexico created by nature thousands of years ago within volcanic holes. The artist Domenico Ghiro wanted to capture the memory of his visit to Mexico, where, in these pools, sunlight refracts off the waves and gives life to a magical image of a crystal dream.
