Pod Chandelier #1
-
Description
Part of an ongoing investigation of organic form, the POD Chandelier #1 is a unique design conceived and executed by Christopher Poehlmann. Poehlmann fabricates the body of the fixture from aluminum in his Philadelphia work shop and commissions a local glass blower to create the glass shades. A constant recycler, Poehlmann has used post-consumer materials as an added value in his work for decades. The glass shop he collaborates with specializes in only using up-cycled post-consumer bottle glass -- resulting in a perfect fit for the two companies. These hand blown shades for the Pod Chandelier #1 started their lives as clear bottles from the Philly based specialty liquor company Art in The Age of Mechanical Reason. After being collected from a local bar or restaurant, they were cleaned, cut, heated in a kiln, and then manipulated by a master glass blower to form these lovely shades. After annealing, the interior of the glass is coated with fine silver and then chemically antiqued. As shown in the photos, the shades are silver mirrored when off, then come alive when turned on.
This chandelier is powered by three low voltage LED modules that are replaceable in the unlikely event of a failure. A matching ceiling canopy will be provided that will house the 120v-12v transformer. At only 4.3w each, this chandelier is incredibly energy efficient yet produces the approximate equivalent of three 40w incandescent bulbs.
This is a one-of-a-kind chandelier design by the artist. -
