Description
Jessica Boubetra’s practice lies at the intersection of the natural world, architectural forms, and cutting-edge digital innovation. As both an artist and architect, she has developed a distinctive and sensitive approach to ceramic sculpture, blending ancient craftsmanship with parametric design and 3D printing technologies. Her work explores the tension between the organic and the artificial, creating sculptures that evoke both the beauty of natural forms and the precision of digital processes.
Nature, with its intricate structures and patterns, is a central source of inspiration for Boubetra. She draws from the organic shapes of plants, marine organisms, and microscopic life to develop a rich visual vocabulary. Her pieces, often inspired by these natural forms, undergo a process of digital transformation, where she applies algorithms and parametric design principles to reimagine and reinterpret their structures for artistic purposes. Boubetra’s career reflects a fusion of diverse influences and technical expertise. After training at the Beaux-Arts de Paris and the Paris Malaquais school of architecture, she further refined her craft through a transformative residency at the Tokyo University of Arts, where she studied ceramics in Japan. Her technical process is deeply rooted in her architectural background, blending traditional methods with cutting-edge digital fabrication techniques. In 2020, she co-founded Lumierrante, a pioneering Paris-based workshop specializing in 3D-printed ceramics. This floor lamp was created with Boubetra’s husband Jean-Baptiste Lenglet, and is partially hand-blown glass and partially 3D printed.
