Wall Lamp "Bo" by Jørgen Bo for Fog og Mørup, Denmark 1960s

$ 1,805
  • Description
    This wall lamp of Fog & Mørup production was designed by architect and designer Professor Jørgen Bo. Like the architect/designer’s other creations, the wall sconce is brilliant in its simplicity. A truely timeless piece.

    Dating from the late 1960s, this “Bo” lamp has had a matte brass base and opal glass shade. It was also in the 1960s that Fog & Mørup really emerged as a significant force in lighting design, a period that initiated the most creatively and commercially successful period in the company’s history. The 1960s were defined by leading Danish designers’ sleek and innovative modernist designs that became the trademark style of Fog & Mørup and propelled the company into the forefront of Danish modern lighting. Among them was Jørgen Bo, and his simple, iconic design, the present “Bo” (sometimes referred to as “Sonet”) wall light. This brass and opal glass model is coveted for its clean and straightforwardly modern look. The sleek design combines a matte brass base with a cylindrical glass shade. Beside the atmospheric light and disciplined, functionalist design, the wall lamp is a statement piece that draws the eye despite its simplicity. Since the two materials dictate the look, much attention was paid to quality and to the craftsmanship that united it into the cylindrical shape. While opal glass has been around since the 16th century, mid-century designers, such as Jørgen Bo often used the material in combination with brass to create a timelessly modern look.

    The design has great proportions, the large shades are balanced by the back plate to create an attention-grabbing look. When lit, the lamp creates an exceptionally atmospheric light, giving the matte brass a vivid colour as well. Model “Bo” is a modernist design to its core with a look that is ageless and can stand out but also complement any space.
