Exceptional Pair of Table Lamps by Svend Hammershoi for Kahler
-
Description
Fine pair of table lamps by Svend Hammershoi for Kahler Keramik, each hand-thrown earthenware base having a column form with tiered projecting rings on top and bottom and and carved vertical stripes of carved herringbone ornament, glazed in the famous black-white tin glaze developed by Jens Thirslund to compliment Hammershoi's signature carved patterning and applied relief elements; Denmark, 1910s-1920s; Inscribed HAK mark for Kahler. (Please note that while due to the artisanal production at Kahler, there are minor variations between the two lamps; however, both the proportions and tone of the glazing are uncommonly consistent, making this a rather special pair.)
